A private contractor may have solved the mystery behind New Jersey’s 2024 drone and “UFO” scare. According to a New York Post article, a unique manned aircraft, demonstrated at the Army’s UAS Summit at Fort Rucker in August 2025, was revealed as the source of last year’s sightings. The contractor claimed their four-winged, 20-foot craft, tested over New Jersey in November 2024, sparked the “UFO” panic due to its unconventional design and flight patterns.
New Jersey’s drone sightings, particularly in counties like Morris, Camden, and Gloucester, continued into May 2025, raising public concern. The Department of Defense attributes most sightings to authorized commercial or hobbyist drones, posing no safety risk. However, the FAA emphasizes strict compliance with airspace rules, especially near sensitive sites like Picatinny Arsenal or Naval Weapons Station Earle, where unauthorized flights are prohibited.
